Government Rewards Team Fiji Medalists with Cash Incentives

The Fiji Government has rewarded its Commonwealth Games medalists with cash incentives following their historic performances in Glasgow. Gold medalist Taniela Rainibogi was awarded $15,000, while bronze medalist Jasmine Daunakumakama received $5,000.

Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru announced the awards at the Team Fiji Commonwealth Games Thanksgiving Dinner. He specifically acknowledged Rainibogi's standout achievement, winning gold in the men's 110-kilogram weightlifting event and setting new Commonwealth Games records. Saukuru also noted Rainibogi's development through a government scholarship.

Daunakumakama made history as the first Fijian woman to win a Commonwealth Games boxing medal, securing bronze in the women's 57-kilogram division. Saukuru stated that these incentives are the government's way of recognizing the athletes' hard work and sacrifice. The awards aim to inspire more Fijians to pursue sports at the highest level.

Team Fiji concluded the Glasgow Games in 20th place overall, with one gold and one bronze medal.
