Government targets jobs for youths leaving care

Fiji's government is launching a new initiative to support young individuals transitioning out of residential care. The program focuses on creating employment and training pathways to ensure these vulnerable youths can achieve independence upon reaching adulthood at 18.

One of their key priorities is ensuring that young people do not leave residential homes without practical support and opportunities for the future.

Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, announced the government's commitment to this cause. Her ministry is actively partnering with government agencies, private sector companies, and community organizations. This collaboration aims to develop concrete opportunities that will benefit young people leaving care.

During a visit to St. Christopher's Home and Dilkusha Home, Minister Kiran met with staff to discuss strengthening support systems. A key priority is ensuring that young people do not leave residential facilities without practical assistance and future prospects. Regular engagement with these homes will help the Ministry better understand the challenges faced by children and vulnerable adults, allowing for more targeted support.
