‘Sopranos’ actor Vincent Pastore dies at 80

Vincent Pastore, a veteran actor celebrated for his tough-guy persona and memorable roles, has passed away at the age of 80. He was widely recognized for his iconic portrayal of Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero, a complex character who served as both a friend to Tony Soprano and an FBI informant in the acclaimed HBO series “The Sopranos.”

His manager, Bob McGowan, confirmed the news, relaying that he learned of Pastore's death from another actor associated with the show. Pastore was discovered in his home on City Island in New York after he had been out of contact for a few days. McGowan remembered Pastore as an exceptionally loyal client and a generous individual, noting his frequent charitable contributions and willingness to assist others, a rarity in the entertainment industry.

Pastore's acting career spanned decades, with early film appearances dating back to the 1980s. He secured roles in notable films such as Martin Scorsese's “Goodfellas” and Penny Marshall's “Awakenings,” both released in 1990. His career was marked by frequent portrayals of gangsters and characters with a hard edge, a typecasting that ultimately led to his most famous role.

Born in the Bronx and raised in suburban New Rochelle, New York, Pastore's life path included a stint in the Navy during the Vietnam War and studies at Pace University. He is survived by his daughter, Renee Pastore. His 30-episode run on “The Sopranos” remains a significant highlight of his extensive acting career.
