Govt Leaves Petrol, Diesel Prices Unchanged for Aug 11

Pakistan's government has opted to maintain current fuel prices for petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) through August 11. This decision comes as international Platts prices were not published on August 10, preventing the usual price revision.

Petrol will continue to be sold at Rs327.62 per litre, and HSD at Rs380.86 per litre. The government levies substantial taxes and duties on these fuels, amounting to Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on HSD.

Fuel prices have seen considerable volatility in recent months. HSD reached a peak of Rs520.35 per litre on April 3, having started its ascent from Rs281 per litre after the US-Iran conflict began on February 28. Similarly, petrol peaked at Rs458.41 on April 3, following an increase from Rs266 in early March.

Earlier, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik had indicated that fuel prices might be fixed daily due to fluctuations in international markets amid renewed hostilities between Iran and the US. The government had been implementing weekly revisions since March, alongside measures to conserve fuel amid potential supply disruptions from the Middle East. The Petroleum Division's notification confirmed the new prices would be applicable on August 11.
