Govt restores original medical board for exhumation of Mir Raza’s body

The Sindh government on Friday evening reinstated the original medical board tasked with exhuming the body of businessman Mir Raza Ali. The exhumation is now scheduled for Saturday.

The procedure, initially planned for Friday morning, was deferred when Raza's family voiced objections to the sudden reconstitution of the medical board and the inclusion of members from outside Karachi. Raza's body was discovered in bushes in Gulistan-i-Jauhar last month, a day after he disappeared on July 28.

A judicial magistrate had previously authorized the exhumation upon an application by Raza's father. However, the Sindh health department's subsequent reconstitution of the board, altering its members, led to the family's rejection. The family's lawyer, Jibran Nasir, accused authorities of attempting to conceal facts and held the police, health department, and Sindh government responsible for the delay.

Nasir stated the family would not accept an exhumation by members whose "qualifications and intentions were under question." He alleged that the DG-health dismissed the original board and reconstituted it with members from Hyderabad, later issuing a "backdated notification" to include them. The family insisted on proceeding only with the original board.
