Grand Opening Ceremony Kicks Off Srikandi Merdeka Cup, Boosting Women's Football in Indonesia

The Srikandi Merdeka Cup, an under-16 women's football tournament presented by Caffino, commenced with a spectacular opening ceremony at Supersoccer Arena in Kudus, Central Java. Thousands of spectators filled the stadium, witnessing a dazzling display of lights and fireworks that marked the beginning of the tournament.

This event is a collaborative effort between the Bakti Olahraga Djarum Foundation and the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), aiming to foster the growth of women's football and help the national team regain its past glory. The opening ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Chairman of the Central KONI, Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Marciano Norman; Deputy Chairman of PSSI, Zainudin Amali; Secretary General of PSSI, Yunus Nusi; PSSI Exco and Chairwoman of the Indonesian Women's Football Association, Vivin Cahyani Sungkono; the Regent of Kudus, Sam’ani Intakoris; and Program Director of Bakti Olahraga Djarum Foundation, Yoppy Rosimin.

Officials expressed their gratitude for the support received, emphasizing the high enthusiasm from both stadium attendees and online viewers. This positive public reception is seen as a significant boost for women's football in Indonesia. The organizers highlighted their commitment to maximizing the event's quality, including the potential use of VAR technology to enhance the viewing experience.

The audience's enthusiasm is very high, both those who have filled the Supersoccer Arena capacity and those watching online. So this is positive support from the public for women's football. Hopefully, this trend will continue to grow so that Indonesian women's football will advance further. We want to maximize the organization, including the availability of VAR facilities so that everyone can enjoy quality women's football matches.

Yunis Nusi, Secretary General of PSSI, lauded the tournament's professional and festive organization, noting that it aligns with the celebrations for Indonesia's Independence Day. He thanked the Djarum Sports Foundation and Caffino for their efforts and acknowledged the Kudus Regency government and its enthusiastic community for supporting the event held at a stadium specifically built for women's football. Nusi indicated that PSSI recognizes Kudus's capability to host international events.

Vivin Cahyani Sungkono, PSSI Exco and Chairwoman of the Indonesian Women's Football Association, described the Srikandi Merdeka Cup as having an international-caliber atmosphere, which she believes will serve as a powerful motivator for continued support and development of women's football.
