Grandmother and grandson die in fire while preparing for birthday celebration

A tragic fire in İzmir, Turkey, has resulted in the deaths of a grandmother and her grandson, just days before the boy's birthday. The blaze erupted on Monday afternoon in a single-story house in the Şirintepe neighborhood of the Çiğli district.

Neighbors alerted emergency services after witnessing smoke and flames engulfing the home. Firefighters, paramedics, and police were dispatched to the scene. Despite their efforts to extinguish the fire, the two occupants, identified as Rezan Korkmaz and her grandson Yiğit Bulut Aydın, were found deceased inside the residence.

Following preliminary on-site investigations, the bodies of the grandmother and grandson were transported to the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institute's morgue for autopsy. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Relatives arrived at the scene upon hearing the devastating news, expressing profound grief. Yiğit Bulut Aydın was reportedly set to celebrate his birthday on August 23rd. The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
