Greece allocates €204.6 million for Thessaloniki exhibition center redevelopment

Thessaloniki is set to undergo a major urban transformation with the allocation of 204.6 million euros from Greece's National Development Program for the redevelopment of the TIF-HELEXPO exhibition center. The decision, signed by the Ministers of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, and Deputy Minister Nikos Papathanasis, integrates the project into the Ministry's Sectoral Development Program for 2026-2030.

This funding ensures public financing for what is described as one of the most significant urban interventions in Thessaloniki in recent decades. The redevelopment plan aims to modernize the exhibition and conference infrastructure while simultaneously creating a valuable public space. The project promises a strong developmental, environmental, and social impact, boosting the city's international profile and improving daily life for its residents.

A central feature of the plan is the creation of a 120-acre Metropolitan Park. This open, modern, and accessible public area will include extensive greenery, recreational zones, and spaces for cultural events and outdoor activities, intended to become a new landmark for Thessaloniki. Throughout the construction, which will be phased over three stages to avoid disrupting exhibition activities, the TIF will continue its operations uninterrupted.

A central element of the intervention is the creation of a Metropolitan Park of approximately 120 acres.

The redevelopment includes constructing two new bioclimatic exhibition buildings totaling approximately 43,000 square meters, fully renovating the "Ioannis Vellidis" Conference Center, and adding about 1,000 underground parking spaces. The project covers a total area of about 89,000 square meters.

The government emphasizes that funding this project through the National Development Program highlights its strategic priority for large public investments that add significant value to the economy, local communities, and the urban environment.
