Greece Nears Deadline for Nationwide Elevator Registration

Greece is on the verge of completing a crucial national initiative to register all elevators by the June 30, 2026 deadline. The Ministry of Development, through its General Secretariat of Industry, is implementing this digital registry to establish a comprehensive and reliable database of elevators across the country. The primary goals are to enhance targeted oversight, prevent risks, and continuously improve the safe operation of these essential systems.

The registration process is entirely online and free of charge, accessible via the platform elevator.mindev.gov.gr using Taxisnet credentials. It applies to all elevators, regardless of building type, certification status, or previous registration in other systems. Once the deadline passes, the registration number will become a key identifier for each elevator and must be included on maintenance records.

Ten frequently asked questions are provided to guide owners, administrators, and industry professionals. Key points include that the registration is mandatory for all elevators, including those in residential buildings, offices, hotels, and commercial establishments. Even if an elevator has been previously certified or registered, it must be included in this new digital registry. The deadline is firm, with no extensions anticipated, as only one extension has already been granted.

Owners and administrators are urged to complete the registration promptly. The platform is user-friendly, takes only a few minutes, and incurs no cost. It's important to note that simply saving the application temporarily does not count as final registration; a definitive submission within the platform is required. Approximately 7,500 applications are currently saved temporarily and risk being considered late if not finalized before the deadline. The system generates a PDF with a unique identification number (UUID) upon successful completion, which serves as proof of registration. Any doubt about completion necessitates re-verification.
