Greece offers up to 50% travel discounts for substitute teachers

The Greek state, in collaboration with ferry and airline companies, has announced significant travel discounts for substitute teachers at the close of the 2025-2026 academic year. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden for thousands of educators who worked away from their home regions.

Offered in partnership between the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, and the Ministry of Maritime and Insular Policy, the program provides discounts ranging from 30% to 50% on both ferry and air travel. This aims to support teachers who have fulfilled their duties in locations distant from their permanent residences.

Several ferry operators are participating. Aegean Sea Lines offers a 50% discount on individual tickets and 30% on vehicles for travel to and from Piraeus between June 19 and July 3, 2026. Attica Group provides a 50% discount on all its routes for both passengers and vehicles, using the code "Η.Ο. ΑΝΑΠΛ.ΚΑΘΗΓΗΤΕΣ 50%". Dodekanisos Seaways and Levante Ferries Group also offer 50% discounts on passenger and vehicle tickets, while Fast Ferries provides 30% on passenger and 20% on vehicle tickets for the same period. Minoan Lines and SEAJETS offer 50% discounts on domestic routes and for passengers and vehicles respectively, and Skyros Shipping Co. offers a 50% discount year-round, including the specified period.

For air travel, Sky Express is offering a 30% discount on flights for substitute teachers. This offer is valid for bookings made by June 15, 2026, for flights between September 5, 2025, and June 30, 2026. Eligible teachers must present their official appointment decision or relevant government gazette (FEK) and their police ID when purchasing tickets and boarding.
