Greece Thwarts Grenade Attack Plot Against Former Prosecutor General; Prisoner Suspected Mastermind

Greek authorities have uncovered a plot to attack the residence of the former prosecutor general, Isidoros Dogiakos, successfully preventing a planned grenade assault. Police have identified a man suspected of supplying the grenade to a 30-year-old Egyptian national, who is accused of undertaking the attack.

This Greek man, known to law enforcement from a past drug case, is currently out on restrictive bail and is now being investigated for his alleged role. During a search of his home, police seized a pistol, ammunition, and 4,000 euros in cash, all of which are being examined as part of the preliminary investigation.

Meanwhile, a life-sentenced inmate at Diavata prison is under scrutiny as the alleged mastermind and planner of the attack. According to initial reports, this prisoner is among three individuals arrested and is believed to have coordinated the plan from within the correctional facility, providing specific instructions to the alleged perpetrator.

Reports suggest the inmate instructed the 30-year-old to use the grenade even if the former top judge's residence was guarded by police. Authorities are assessing this detail as evidence of the suspects' determination to carry out the attack, even at the risk of casualties. The operation, conducted by the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, followed weeks of surveillance on the main suspect.
