Greek actress Jenny Zacharopoulou dies at 85

Greek actress Jenny Zacharopoulou has died at the age of 85. She passed away early Thursday morning in a hospital where she had been receiving treatment for several days.

Zacharopoulou began her artistic career after graduating from the Katselis School. She toured internationally for three years with Dimitris Rontiris, performing classical repertoire. Her collaborations with Aliki Vougiouklaki and Dimitris Papamichael brought her widespread recognition, and she later worked with many prominent comedians.

She starred in landmark Greek television series such as "Yugerman," "Panthei," "Our Neighborhood," and "The Guards of Achaia." Her filmography includes "The Wife Who Fears Man" (1965), "The Avenue of Betrayal" (1969), and "I Die Every Dawn" (1969), among many others.

Zacharopoulou shared a deep friendship with fellow actress Aliki Vougiouklaki. She recalled their first meeting in a radio studio, where Vougiouklaki complimented her hair, breaking the ice and leading to a strong bond. One of Zacharopoulou's last public appearances was in May at "The Actor's House" and the music venue "Giorgos Marinos" during a tribute to Giorgos Marinos.
