Greek-Canadian man in coma after dental implants in Turkey; wife alleges lack of answers

A 53-year-old Greek-Canadian man remains in critical condition in an intensive care unit after falling into a coma following dental implant surgery in Turkey. The man, identified as Alexandros, had traveled to Turkey in late July, attracted by the clinic's low costs.

We are not being given much hope.

His wife, Maria, expressed distress over the lack of clear communication from the clinic regarding the cause of his coma. She suspects complications arose during anesthesia, stating, "The problem was obviously with the anesthesia and upon waking." She recounted that the clinic initially assured her he would wake up soon, but after 48 hours, she was informed he had internal bleeding and was in a comatose state.

I haven't received a specific answer. Obviously, the problem was with the anesthesia and upon waking.

Initially, the clinic's reviews and state certifications had reassured the couple. The procedure began with local anesthesia, but Alexandros reportedly required general anesthesia, after which he never regained consciousness. He was transferred to a Turkish hospital and has been on a ventilator since.

He never woke up from the general anesthesia. From then on, he was transferred to a hospital in Turkey and has been intubated in intensive care ever since.

Following intervention from Greek authorities, including the Minister of Health and the consul in Ankara, Alexandros was repatriated to Greece via a civilian aircraft. His wife is now awaiting positive news from his doctors, hoping for his recovery and return to their home in Canada.

While they told me they would wake him up. After two days, they told me he had blood clots. Then the bleeding started. Then they told me I couldn't trust anyone. I am alone.
