Greek parents face rising costs for school supplies

As the new academic year approaches, Greek parents are facing the annual challenge of purchasing school supplies, with costs proving to be a significant concern. Many families have already begun their market research, visiting stores to identify necessary items.

While the overall cost for basic school supplies remains similar to the previous year, the final expenditure heavily depends on individual student needs and preferences. A price survey conducted by Ertnews Radio 105.8 estimates the average cost for essential items to be between 100 and 120 euros per child. This estimate notably excludes larger items such as school bags, water bottles, and lunch containers.

The market prices for individual items show a wide range. School bags can start from 15 euros and go up to 100 euros, depending on the design and brand. Basic notebooks are available from 0.49 euros, while math notebooks range from 1.59 to 2.5 euros. Other items like spiral notebooks vary from 1 euro to 8 euros, watercolor blocks from 2.25 to 15 euros, and marker or paintbrush sets (12 pieces) cost between 2.5 and 10 euros.
