Greek police arrest suspect in suitcase killing of British woman

Greek police have arrested a 26-year-old foreign national suspected of murdering a 38-year-old British woman whose body was discovered in a suitcase in Athens last month. The Directorate for Combating Organized Crime announced the breakthrough in the homicide case on Sunday.

The victim, identified as Elisabeth-Jane Ross from Scotland, arrived in Greece in late June and was last seen in Athens on July 10 before being reported missing. Her body was found in an abandoned building in the Kypseli area on July 18.

According to police, the suspect confessed on Thursday to intentional homicide, robbery, and firearms-related offenses. He allegedly placed the victim's body in a suitcase and transported it to the abandoned premises. Furthermore, the suspect reportedly used the victim's bank cards to withdraw money in the days following her death.

While the suspect claimed the victim was already dead when he found her, police did not mention this in their statement. A replica pistol and a knife were recovered from his home. International collaboration, involving Interpol and law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and UK, was crucial in identifying the victim, whose body showed signs of advanced decomposition. The investigation is ongoing.
