Grenade and Firearm Discovered in Vilnius Region; Investigations Underway

Authorities in the Vilnius region of Lithuania have responded to multiple discoveries of potentially dangerous items in recent days. In one incident, a live combat grenade was found in a meadow along Bajorų kelias, prompting a swift response from specialized units.

The grenade, identified as lacking a detonator, was discovered around 7:55 PM on Monday. Officers from the "Aras" special unit, tasked with counter-terrorism operations, secured the device and took it for safe destruction. The circumstances surrounding its appearance in the meadow are currently under investigation.

In a separate event on the same evening, a firearm was found in a small wooded area in the Žvėrynas and Šeškinė districts of Vilnius, specifically on Paribio Street. The weapon, identified as a "Revolver Agnet," was seized by police, and an investigation has been launched into the illegal possession of a firearm.

Additionally, earlier on Monday, around 3:40 PM, six rounds of 7.65mm caliber ammunition were found inside premises on Algirdo Street in Birštonas. Police are working to determine the owner of the ammunition and have initiated a preliminary investigation into the matter.

These discoveries highlight ongoing efforts by Lithuanian law enforcement to address illegal weapons and explosives, ensuring public safety through thorough investigations and the removal of hazardous items.
