The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) is reportedly prepared to make significant financial concessions in an effort to recruit former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to lead the Italian national team. Guardiola has been linked with the Azzurri coaching position for some time, and recent statements from FIGC officials have added weight to these rumors.

FIGC President Giovanni Malagò confirmed that financial "exceptions" could be made for specific candidates, explicitly naming the Spanish strategist. According to the British newspaper "The Guardian," Guardiola is among the individuals being considered for the Azzurri's bench. His appointment would necessitate a unique approach due to his high salary demands. Malagò did not disclose specific details but acknowledged the federation's willingness to create special conditions for certain candidates.

These are exceptions for obvious reasons that I will not explain, but it is not certain that this will materialize," Malagò stated. Guardiola is currently unattached after leaving Manchester City at the end of last season, where he achieved considerable success, including six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five League Cups, and a Champions League title over ten years. Prior to his tenure in England, he managed Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Italy is navigating one of its most challenging periods, having failed to qualify for the last two World Cups. Since Gennaro Gattuso's departure in April, the federation has been searching for a new coach to restore the national team to European prominence. While Roberto Mancini, who led Italy to the Euro 2021 title, and former player Andrea Pirlo are also mentioned as potential candidates, Malagò emphasized that the list is not limited to these names.
