Their leadership in the peaceful 2023 demonstrations in defense of democracy was met not with dialogue, but with repression. This anniversary coincides with a critical juncture: the final list of candidates for Attorney General is being prepared, a decision that will profoundly shape Guatemala's future.

all alarms are on because a majority of commissioners led by Claudia Paredes, the current president of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ), who directs the nominating committee, using tricks and arguments, has taken on the task of benefiting questioned individuals and leaving out candidates whose profile and trajectory guaranteed returning the institution to the path of legality and stopping the instrumentalization of the Prosecutor's Office to benefit the corrupt and persecute the innocent.

Alarm bells are ringing loudly as the selection commission, reportedly led by the current Supreme Court President Claudia Paredes, appears to be employing dubious tactics. The goal seems to be to benefit individuals with questionable backgrounds while disqualifying candidates who possess the integrity and experience necessary to steer the institution back towards legality. This includes instances like the exclusion of Marco Antonio Villeda, the current Minister of Interior, based on technicalities, despite his judicial experience, while Consuelo Porras, a figure repeatedly flagged for corruption and anti-democratic actions, astonishingly receives the highest marks.

The most scandalous case (but not the only one) is that of the judge and current Minister of the Interior, Marco Antonio Villeda, whose judicial career they decided not to recognize for not being registered in the registry of lawyers and notaries of the CSJ, when his function as a judge did not require it.
