Gunmen kill ex-Rivers LG CSO in broad daylight

Mr Letam Kine, a former Chief Security Officer for Bori in Rivers State, was fatally shot by unidentified assailants on Sunday evening. The attack, which took place on Polytechnic Road, sent shockwaves through the community, causing residents and business owners to flee and halt activities.

As a result of the incident, social and business activities were immediately halted, with shop owners hurriedly closing their businesses.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen opened fire on Kine before escaping into nearby bushes. The incident has instilled fear, particularly among students of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, which is located in Bori. Police arrived at the scene after the assailants had fled.

The Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Dr Thomas Bariere, strongly condemned the killing, denouncing it as a senseless act of violence. He expressed deep concern, noting that this murder follows another killing in a nearby community just weeks prior. Bariere suggested these repeated attacks indicate the presence of armed criminal gangs aiming to destabilize the region.

Dr Bariere urged all security agencies to increase their operations throughout the local government area to apprehend those responsible for these heinous crimes and bring them to justice. He emphasized that such criminality has no place in a peaceful society.

He expressed deep concern that the killing comes barely weeks after the tragic murder of Mr Clement Deegbara J. of Kpong Community, noting that the repeated attacks point to the activities of armed criminal gangs determined to undermine the peace and security of Khana.
