Gus Yahya to Focus on R20 Global Forum and Travel to the United States in December

After stepping down as leader of Nahdlatul Ulama, Yahya Cholil Staquf says he will concentrate again on interfaith dialogue and strengthening the Humanitarian Islam movement.

The change will follow the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress in Jombang. Staquf, who led the organization for the 2021-2026 period, said he would pursue the agenda through international institutions he established, including the Center for Shared Civilizational Values, or CSCV.

“ The foundation I established acts as the permanent secretariat responsible for managing the global movement of the Religion of Twenty forum, the Center for Shared Civilizational Values,” Staquf said in Jombang on Tuesday, according to Antara. The R20 forum brings religious leaders from different countries together for dialogue on shared civilizational values.

Staquf also identified himself as the founder of Bayt ar-Rahmah Li ad-Da'wa al-Islamiyah Rahmatan li al-'Alamin, a global religious foundation based in the United States. “In addition to CSCV, I am also the founder of a U.S.-based global religious foundation called Bayt ar-Rahmah,” he said.

He said both organizations had worked with Nahdlatul Ulama to develop Humanitarian Islam and hold interfaith dialogue forums involving religious leaders from several countries. Staquf is expected to travel to the United States in December to focus on the R20 global forum.
