Højlund: “We all suffered under Amorim”

Rasmus Højlund says his time at Manchester United might have looked very different if the club had beaten Tottenham in the 2025 Europa League final.

The Napoli and Denmark striker discussed his United spell in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport. He joined the English club from Atalanta for £72 million in the summer of 2023 and scored 26 goals in 95 appearances. He moved to Napoli on loan last season, scored 15 goals, and completed a permanent transfer for £38 million this summer.

I do not think one specific thing went wrong. I joined a club that was having a difficult season, and we also dealt with many injuries, but we managed to win a cup and I was the top scorer.

Højlund said his first season had brought success despite injuries across the team. He finished as the club’s leading scorer and helped United win a cup, but described the following campaign as difficult after Amorim arrived with a different style of play.

He added that winning the Europa League final would have changed the way his United career was viewed. “My first year was successful, but the second was not. Still, I played in a Europa League final.
