Haaland and Cherki Score Twice as Manchester City Thrash Crystal Palace

Erling Haaland, shedding his signature ponytail, proved he still has his scoring touch, netting his first two goals of the season as Manchester City secured a dominant 4-1 win against Crystal Palace. Teammate Rayan Cherki also delivered a stellar performance, contributing two goals to the decisive victory in the second round of the Premier League.

Manchester City has now won both of its opening matches this season under new head coach Enzo Maresca, who took over from Pep Guardiola. In contrast, Crystal Palace, also under a new manager, Pierre Sage, has experienced a difficult start, suffering two consecutive defeats.

The match began unfavorably for Crystal Palace on their home turf. However, the early breakthrough came when Antoine Semenyo delivered a pass to the imposing Haaland. The Norwegian striker confidently headed the ball into the net, celebrating with a black armband as a mark of respect following the death of Norway's King Harald earlier that day. Both Haaland and Crystal Palace's Norwegian forward, Jørgen Strand Larsen, wore black armbands to honor the fallen monarch.

In the second half, Cherki extended City's lead with a dazzling display of skill, dribbling deep into the penalty area before slotting the ball home with his left foot. Crystal Palace managed to pull a goal back through a spectacular free-kick from Yeremy Pino, which struck the crossbar. The rebound deflected off City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma's back, unfortunately resulting in an own goal. Cherki, however, quickly restored City's comfortable two-goal cushion with another long-range strike. Haaland sealed the victory in the closing minutes, firing home a powerful shot from a Phil Foden assist.
