Haddad denounces selective release of Federal Police records and says Flávio Bolsonaro is being protected

Fernando Haddad has accused authorities of choosing which confidential details to expose in Federal Police investigations tied to the Banco Master scandal. Speaking before a campaign event in Santos, the Workers’ Party candidate for governor of São Paulo said, “If you are going to expose it, expose everything, without selectivity.”

Haddad suggested that Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, who is running for president, was receiving favorable treatment. “I can’t understand why Flávio’s case remains confidential,” he said. “We will decide Brazil’s fate on Oct. 4, and one of the people involved in the Banco Master scandal is running for president. He is up to his neck in every recent scandal and his records remain confidential. I ask, why? Is he better than the other senators or than the Supreme Court justice? Why is he being protected? How long will he be protected?”

The comments echoed demands from lawmakers in the Brasil da Esperança coalition, formed by the Workers’ Party, the Communist Party of Brazil and the Green Party, as well as the PSOL-Rede coalition. They called for equal publicity in investigations involving Flávio Bolsonaro and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

The lawmakers want Supreme Court President Edson Fachin to bring before the full court a request to lift secrecy from three proceedings concerning financing for Dark Horse, a biographical film about former President Jair Bolsonaro. The cases examine contributions from banker Daniel Vorcaro that Flávio Bolsonaro allegedly helped arrange. Flávio Bolsonaro has said there was “nothing wrong” with asking Vorcaro for money, describing the contact as made in good faith to finance the film, and has denied receiving the 61 million reais mentioned in the case.
