Hai Phong Orders Urgent Typhoon Maysak Preparations, Bach Long Vi Noted

Hai Phong city is mobilizing all resources to confront Typhoon Maysak, with a particular focus on the strategically important island of Bach Long Vi. City leaders have issued urgent directives to all departments and local authorities, stressing the paramount importance of protecting lives and property.

The typhoon, identified internationally as Maysak, is forecast to move north-northwest and is expected to directly impact the waters off Quang Ninh and Hai Phong with winds reaching level 8, gusting to level 10. The city's leadership has warned against any complacency, prioritizing the safety of its residents above all else.

Bach Long Vi, an island outpost in the northern Gulf of Tonkin, faces the brunt of the storm and must complete its preparations 12 hours ahead of the mainland. This includes evacuating residents from low-lying and vulnerable areas, securing fishing vessels and aquaculture cages, and ensuring no one remains on board during the storm.

Relevant government bodies, including the Border Guard, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Department of Construction, are actively involved. They are tasked with managing vessel movements, inspecting dikes and drainage systems, and assessing the safety of old apartment buildings. Maritime authorities and local media are coordinating to guide ships and disseminate timely storm information.

City officials have been put on notice, with department heads and local leaders held directly accountable for any failures in planning or execution that result in loss of life or property. The city's preparedness efforts underscore the serious threat posed by the typhoon and the commitment to safeguarding its population.
