Hail and Downpours Flood Streets and Yards in Panevėžys District

Residents of the Panevėžys district in Lithuania are grappling with the aftermath of severe weather, as intense hailstorms and heavy rainfall have led to widespread flooding.

The hail was so substantial in certain locations that it blanketed the ground, creating scenes that resembled winter landscapes with white mounds of ice accumulating near gates and roadsides. Following the hail, heavy rain overwhelmed drainage systems, causing water to pool in low-lying areas and inundate gardens and fields.

Meteorologists have issued warnings for the upcoming days. Short periods of rain are expected across much of the country on Wednesday night, accompanied by northwesterly winds. Daytime temperatures will range from 16 to 21 degrees Celsius. Thursday is forecast to bring more short-lived rain, with the possibility of thunderstorms in some areas, and winds shifting direction.

Further rainfall is anticipated on Friday, with potential for thunderstorms in various locations. River levels across Lithuania have been observed to be rising, with significant daily increases noted in the Šešuvys, Aunuvė, and Bartuva rivers. Hydrological forecasts indicate a continued rise in water levels, with river temperatures ranging from 12 to 23 degrees Celsius.
