Hamas obstructing aid efforts as Gaza supplies exceed humanitarian needs, COGAT says

A senior official from Israel's Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) asserted that Hamas is actively hindering humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip. The official accused the organization of exploiting civilian infrastructure, manipulating aid distribution, and attempting to smuggle prohibited items under the guise of humanitarian assistance.

COGAT's analysis indicates that the quantity of aid entering Gaza significantly surpasses the humanitarian needs defined by UN agencies and other international organizations. Since the beginning of a ceasefire in October 2025, the IDF has facilitated the entry of substantial aid, including over two million tons of food, with approximately 600 trucks arriving daily. Food prices have reportedly dropped by about 72% as a result.

The organization interferes with humanitarian operations, exploits civilian infrastructure, influences distribution mechanisms, and continues its repeated attempts to smuggle prohibited items.

The data presented by COGAT highlights the extensive flow of essential supplies. Daily water supply averages over 70,000 cubic meters, equating to more than 60 liters per person. Additionally, over 74,000 tons of hygiene and sanitation supplies have entered the Strip, alongside garbage disposal equipment and water purification tablets. Forty-one bakeries operate with international support, producing over three million pita breads daily.

Despite these figures, the COGAT official reiterated Israel's commitment to international cooperation. "Israel will continue to work together with its international partners to improve the humanitarian response, while preventing its exploitation by Hamas at the expense of the residents of the Gaza Strip," the official stated. This stance underscores Israel's position that while facilitating aid, it also aims to counter Hamas's alleged interference.
