Hamas Police Chief Reportedly Killed in Israeli Attack

Palestinian officials announced that the Israeli army killed the police chief of the radical Islamist group Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip. Abdel-Nasser Al-Maqadma died in an attack in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City, according to the Hamas-run Interior Ministry and Palestinian rescue services. Maqadma also served as the governor of the northern Gaza Strip. The Israeli military had not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.

In another development, Palestinian rescue services reported that an Israeli attack in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza killed a Palestinian paramedic. Additionally, a police officer succumbed to injuries sustained in a previous Israeli airstrike. The Israeli military has targeted dozens of members of the Hamas-led police force in recent months, including several leaders.

Meanwhile, Israeli soldiers arrested dozens of Palestinians in the West Bank following a deadly confrontation. The arrests occurred after a shooting incident the previous day resulted in the deaths of at least four Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers. Palestinian authorities claimed the shooting was provoked by Israeli settlers attempting to attack the Palestinian village of Tell. The Israeli military initially described the involved Israeli civilians as hikers but later acknowledged some were armed. Both sides reportedly opened fire before soldiers intervened. The mayor of Tell stated that around 70 villagers were detained, with house searches and military patrols ongoing.
