Hanoi Airport Introduces Dedicated Immigration Lanes, Eases Traffic

Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport has introduced significant improvements aimed at streamlining passenger flow and enhancing the travel experience. Starting August 3, the airport officially implemented separate immigration lanes for Vietnamese citizens and foreign nationals at the international terminal (T2). This move aligns with practices seen at major global airports, designed to expedite processing times.

In addition to the dedicated immigration channels, the airport has also established distinct pick-up and drop-off points for taxis and ride-sharing services. This measure seeks to address and eliminate localized traffic congestion, thereby creating a more organized and less crowded environment within the terminal areas. Traditional airport-franchised taxis will operate from specific lanes near the terminals, while ride-sharing vehicles will use designated parking lots.

I had to wait a whole hour for immigration, mixed with hundreds of foreign passengers.

Passengers have responded enthusiastically to these changes. Many travelers have reported significantly shorter waiting times for immigration procedures, with some experiencing processing in as little as 4-5 minutes, a stark contrast to the previous waits that could extend to an hour or more when mixed with international passengers. The implementation of separate lanes has fostered a sense of pride among Vietnamese travelers.

One traveler, Quach Thuong from Hanoi, shared her excitement, recalling a previous experience returning from Europe where she waited over an hour in a combined immigration line. She expressed pride in seeing Vietnam adopt similar efficient systems. Another passenger echoed this sentiment, noting a feeling of "chạnh lòng" (heartache or wistfulness) when observing separate lanes for citizens in European airports, and now feeling "hãnh diện và tự hào" (honored and proud) with the new setup at Noi Bai.
