Hanoi workshop fire claims at least one life

A devastating fire erupted at a carpentry workshop in Chuong My, Hanoi, on the morning of August 19, 2026, resulting in at least one fatality. The blaze began around 10:20 AM, originating in the painting and loft sections of the facility before rapidly spreading and producing heavy plumes of black smoke.

At the time of the incident, nearly 30 workers were present inside the workshop. Upon noticing the fire, panic ensued as employees scrambled to escape to safety. Local residents immediately alerted emergency services while attempting to manage the situation before official responders arrived.

The Hanoi Firefighting and Rescue Police, with units from Areas 28 and 4, were dispatched to the scene. A significant response was mounted, involving 10 fire engines, excavators, concrete trucks, and hundreds of police and militia personnel. Firefighters approached the workshop from two directions, using a concrete truck to breach the roof and direct hoses to combat the flames.

The fire was brought under control by 11:15 AM. Two ambulances were present, and a victim's body was recovered from the site. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the identities of the victims, the total extent of the damage, or the definitive cause of the fire. The workshop's location within the Ngọc Hòa industrial complex, surrounded by other facilities, presented some challenges for the firefighting efforts.
