Has China’s missile force got America’s Kadena base in Japan in its sights?

Rare footage broadcast by Chinese state television appears to depict the US Air Force's Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, as a potential target for the People's Liberation Army Rocket Force (PLARF). The imagery was featured during an episode of the CCTV documentary series "Securing Victory."

Within the documentary, which commemorates the PLA's 99th anniversary, PLARF officers were shown discussing exercises and combat scenarios. A satellite image of an airbase, slightly out of focus, was visible in the background as they spoke. The layout of the airfield, including its runway and surrounding urban areas, closely matched that of Kadena Air Base.

One PLARF officer, Luo Tingrong, was seen addressing personnel while standing before a large screen displaying the satellite image. He stated, "Everything you practise today could be what happens tomorrow." The documentary did not provide a specific date for when this discussion took place, but its broadcast coincided with events leading up to the PLA's anniversary on August 1.

The potential targeting of Kadena Air Base, a significant US military installation in the Indo-Pacific region, highlights ongoing military tensions and strategic posturing between China and the United States.
