"He arrived at the wrong house": US police kill student after mistaken address call

A night of celebration turned tragic when 22-year-old student Glenwood Pysher was fatally shot by a Pennsylvania police officer after he mistakenly approached the wrong house. Pysher's mother recounted that her son, a student at Saint Elizabeth University in Morris Township, New Jersey, was out celebrating a friend's 21st birthday on the night of August 22-23.

According to his mother, Erin Pysher, Glenwood Pysher and his friends decided to continue the party at a friend's home. However, after consuming alcohol, Pysher became disoriented and ended up at what he believed was the correct address. "He was walking down the road towards what he thought was his friend's house. After having a few drinks, he found himself walking in the dark, in the middle of the night. I guess he got lost, took the wrong path, and ended up at the wrong house," Erin Pysher told ABC News.

Pysher reportedly knocked on the door and then banged, asking to be let in. He then went to the back of the house, knocked again, and shouted for entry. The couple residing there, fearing a burglary, contacted the authorities. Pysher's parents, who stated that the police have provided limited information, have been piecing together the events by speaking with those present that night.

"We know he was on the phone with them from 0:32 to 0:33 AM. His friends were on their way to pick him up when the police, they said, sped past them," his mother indicated. "By 0:35 AM, emergency services had already reported a shooting." Around 2 a.m., two officers arrived at the Pysher residence and inquired if a Glenwood resided there. Erin Pysher initially thought they were looking for her husband, who shares the same name, before being informed that her son had been shot twice by an Upper Pottsgrove police officer.

Kevin R. Steele, the Montgomery County District Attorney, announced that his office is investigating the shooting but offered few details regarding the incident. "Upper Pottsgrove Township Police responded to a 911 call reporting a possible attempted break-in at a residence on Snyder Road. Upon their arrival, officers encountered a male," Steele stated in a social media release.
