Inhumane prison conditions at Aix-Luynes denounced in court: "They sweat so much their beds rust"

Lawyers are taking the French state to court over dire detention conditions at Aix-Luynes prison. The Syndicat des avocats de France, the Observatoire des prisons, and the Aix bar association filed a "référé-liberté" request Tuesday before the administrative tribunal in Marseille. They are demanding about 15 measures to urgently improve the situation.

Lawyers described extreme heat inside the prison, stating, "They sweat so much that their beds start to rust." This highlights the severe overcrowding and unsanitary conditions faced by inmates.

The legal action follows a similar case in Bordeaux, with another planned for the Baumettes prison, indicating a broader pattern of legal challenges against prison conditions in France. The plaintiffs aim to force the administration to implement immediate changes to ensure basic human rights are met within the detention facilities.
