Health Alert: Peru Orders Recall and Destruction of Medical Products for Cancer Treatment Due to Health Risks

Peru's health regulatory bodies, Digemid and Indecopi, have mandated the withdrawal and destruction of two medical products after they failed to meet established quality control standards. The decision, announced on August 7, 2026, impacts an intravenous cannula and a medication used in cancer treatment, affecting specific batches of each product.

The first product subject to the recall is the SAFETY I.V. CANNULA, a winged intravenous cannula without a port, from the POLYWIN SAFETY brand, lot number 3247924K. This device is used for administering intravenous medications and solutions. Indecopi reported that critical failures related to its physical characteristics were identified during quality assessments, leading Digemid to order its removal from circulation and subsequent destruction.

The second product is IFOSFAMIDE 1g, a powder for injection used primarily to treat certain types of cancer, specifically lot number 07102. Quality control evaluations determined that this batch did not meet the required conditions for use. The registration holders for the cannula and the ifosfamida are Tecnología y Materiales S.R.L. and Perulab S.A., respectively.

Indecopi is advising healthcare facilities, professionals, and consumers to verify if they possess any of these affected products and to cease their use immediately.
