Heartless Imposter Steals Donations Posing as Victim's Family After Japan Mall Explosion

A shocking act of deception has come to light following a deadly explosion at an AEON Mall in Kumamoto, Japan. Seven employees lost their lives in the blast that occurred after a major earthquake on July 28. In the aftermath, an individual exploited the tragedy by impersonating a grieving family member.

The perpetrator took to X, formerly Twitter, posting a plea for information about their mother, who they claimed worked at a restaurant within the mall. The post quickly went viral, garnering over 14,000 shares. As sympathy poured in, the imposter announced their mother had likely perished, prompting many users to offer condolences.

Three individuals, moved by the story, privately sent a total of 18,000 yen (approximately $120 USD) to the person. However, suspicions arose when it was discovered that the restaurant in question did not employ a female staff member matching the surname provided. Confronted with this discrepancy, the individual admitted to fabricating the story for attention and validation. They have since returned the donated funds and deleted their social media account.
