Heat and thunderstorms: what the weather will be like in Kazakhstan on July 17

Kazakhstan is set for a day of contrasting weather on July 17, with extreme heat dominating many southern and central areas while thunderstorms threaten the north and west.

Astana will experience partly cloudy skies with no precipitation, reaching a daytime high of 34°C. Winds will pick up during the day, ranging from 9-14 m/s. Further south, Almaty faces a scorching 42°C, with northeastern winds at 3-8 m/s. The mountainous zones near Almaty will be cooler, with temperatures between 25-30°C.

Shymkent is bracing for extreme heat, with temperatures soaring to 45-47°C. Northeastern winds will blow at 8-13 m/s. Meanwhile, the Akmola Region is expected to see rain, thunderstorms, and hail, particularly in its western and northern parts. Daytime temperatures will be around 30-35°C, with winds gusting up to 15-20 m/s.

In the western part of the country, the West Kazakhstan Region will experience rain and thunderstorms, potentially with hail and squalls. Daytime temperatures will range from 22-27°C, with winds reaching 15-20 m/s in some areas. Atyrau Region is also forecast to have rain and thunderstorms.
