Heatwave Continues in Romania, Showers Expected in Some Areas

Romania is bracing for continued heatwave conditions across much of the country on Wednesday, with temperatures expected to soar and cause significant thermal discomfort. The critical threshold of 80 units on the temperature-humidity index (ITU) is likely to be breached, especially in the Western Plain and the Romanian Plain.

Maximum temperatures are forecast to range from 30 degrees Celsius on the coast to an isolated 39 degrees in Banat and Crișana. Minimum temperatures will vary between 12 degrees in eastern Transylvania and 22 degrees along the coast. Skies will be partly cloudy, with afternoon and evening cloud build-up, particularly in the Eastern Carpathians and Apuseni Mountains. Isolated showers, accompanied by thunderstorms, are possible in northern Moldova, with rainfall amounts of 1-5 liters per square meter.

Wind conditions will be light to moderate, with temporary increases in speed towards the evening and night in western and southeastern regions, reaching gusts of 40-50 km/h. In contrast, northern Transylvania and Maramureș are expected to experience pleasant weather with falling temperatures. Only mountainous areas might see some afternoon showers.

Bucharest will also experience a heatwave, with the ITU exceeding 80 units. Maximum temperatures will reach 35-36 degrees Celsius, with minimums between 17-20 degrees, indicating a tropical night. The sky will be mostly clear, and winds will be light to moderate, with slight increases towards the end of the period, reaching 35-40 km/h. Coastal areas will see generally pleasant weather with variable skies and possible afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with temperatures between 28-31 degrees Celsius and sea temperatures around 24-25 degrees.
