Heatwave in South Korea's Chungnam province leads to heatstroke and cramps

A severe heatwave gripping South Korea's Chungnam province has resulted in a series of heat-related illnesses, with emergency services responding to multiple cases. The intense heat has prompted authorities to issue heatwave warnings and advisories across several cities.

On July 25, a man in his 70s collapsed from heatstroke in Cheongyang-eup, Cheongyang-gun. Responders provided immediate cooling treatment with ice packs before transporting him to a nearby hospital. Earlier that morning, in Gyeryong, a man in his 50s lying in the shade experienced general weakness attributed to the extreme heat, receiving emergency care from paramedics.

Later that afternoon, a man in his 60s exhibiting symptoms of heat cramps was taken to the hospital by emergency services in Jeongan-myeon, Gongju-si. The day's highest apparent temperatures reached 35.1 degrees Celsius in Asan and 35 degrees in Buyeo around 3:10 PM, contributing to the rising number of heat-related incidents.

Asan and Buyeo are currently under heatwave warnings, while other cities including Daejeon, Cheonan, Gongju, Nonsan, Geumsan, Cheongyang, Yesan, Taean, Dangjin, Seocheon, Gyeryong, Boryeong, Hongseong, and Seosan are under heatwave advisories. Residents are urged to take precautions against the extreme heat.
