Heavy rain and thunderstorms lash Joniškis as changeable weekend weather looms

Joniškis experienced a significant downpour with thunderstorms on Friday evening, as captured in a video shared on social media. The "Orai ir klimatas Lietuvoje" (Weather and Climate in Lithuania) group noted a localized storm cell in the Joniškis region.

The weather is set to become more unsettled over the weekend. According to Edita Gečaitė, a meteorologist with the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, while Friday brought summer warmth, temperatures will drop in the coming days. Saturday night will see variable cloudiness, with fog in some areas and an approaching atmospheric front. Light rain with thunderstorms is expected, particularly in the southwestern regions, bringing wind gusts of 15-17 m/s. Nighttime temperatures will remain warm, between 14-19 degrees Celsius.

Saturday daytime will continue to be affected by the front, with widespread short rains and thunderstorms. Wind gusts could reach 15-18 m/s, and hail is possible in some places. The highest temperatures will be lower than Friday, reaching 20-28 degrees Celsius, with cooler conditions of 20-22 degrees in western areas.

Sunday night will still see moisture-laden clouds from the cold front. Eastern parts of the country are expected to receive heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and northwesterly to westerly wind gusts of up to 15-17 m/s. Temperatures will cool to 12-17 degrees Celsius, with the coolest conditions in Žemaitija. Sunday daytime is forecast to be drier, with scattered showers in the morning before skies clear. A moderate northwesterly to westerly wind will prevail, and temperatures will rise to 21-26 degrees Celsius.
