Heavy rain, sleet and heat: storm warning issued in Astana and 15 regions

Residents across Kazakhstan face a sharply varied weather picture, with overnight frost expected in Astana while other areas prepare for thunderstorms, sleet, dust storms and powerful winds.

In Almaty, rain and thunderstorms are forecast overnight and in the morning. The Ile Alatau mountains could see rain and thunderstorms during the day, with north-easterly winds reaching gusts of 17 to 22 metres per second.

Kyzylorda Region faces dust storms in its southern and central areas, along with an extreme fire hazard. Zhetysu could see winds of 23 to 28 metres per second, occasionally reaching 30 metres per second or more around the Alakol Lakes. Rain, thunderstorms and fog are also forecast there, while high or extreme fire danger remains in different parts of the region.

Almaty Region is expected to receive rain, thunderstorms and occasional heavy rain in its southern, eastern and mountainous areas. Eastern Kazakhstan could see rain and sleet, fog and winds of up to 23 metres per second, while overnight temperatures in northern, eastern and mountainous areas may fall to 1 to 3 degrees below zero. High or extreme fire danger also persists in West Kazakhstan, Atyrau, Aktobe and other areas.
