Heavy rainfall destroys over 20 homes, farmlands in Plateau community

Torrential rainfall has devastated the Darwat-Jol community in Plateau State, Nigeria, destroying over 20 homes and farmlands. The severe flooding, triggered by heavy downpours on Saturday afternoon, left numerous families displaced and stripped of their belongings.

A resident, Mr. Damba Dang, described the rainfall as one of the heaviest in recent memory. He explained that the inadequate drainage system was overwhelmed, leading to the collapse of many mud and thatch houses. "Many houses collapsed under the weight of the water. We lost food items, clothing and other household goods. It was a terrible sight," Dang said.

The floodwaters also washed away several farmlands, exacerbating the hardship for the community, which relies heavily on agriculture. The affected residents are now urgently appealing to the Plateau State Government, relevant agencies, and humanitarian organizations for immediate relief materials and support.
