Spectacular "ephemeral waterfalls" have formed along Taiwan's Alishan Highway following recent heavy rains, creating a beautiful yet dangerous spectacle. The landslide at kilometer 71.4 was mainly caused by "ephemeral waterfalls" formed by prolonged heavy rain, which caused the rock face to crack and led to rockfalls.

One such event occurred at kilometer 71.4 of the highway, where a landslide caused by the forceful water flow temporarily disrupted traffic. Local expert Huang Yuan-ming explained that the "ephemeral waterfall" effect, where water saturates the rock face over time, led to the collapse. Authorities have deployed personnel to monitor the situation and have erected warning signs to alert drivers.

Another section of the highway at kilometer 72.2 experienced a larger landslide this year, following a rockfall incident last year. While this area has a buffer zone to mitigate severe damage, drivers are advised to remain vigilant and reduce speed.
