High fire risk today in Attica, Evia, and other Greek regions

Greece faces a high risk of wildfires on Monday, July 20, with the General Secretariat for Civil Protection issuing a warning for numerous regions. Attica, Evia, Boeotia, Phthiotis, Magnesia, Argolis, Corinthia, Laconia, Aetolia-Acarnania, Arta, Preveza, Thesprotia, and Kilkis are among the areas on high alert, along with the Ionian and East Aegean islands.

A high fire risk (category 3) is predicted for today, Monday, July 20, in several regions of the country, according to the Daily Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection.

Civil protection authorities have notified all relevant state services, regional governments, and municipalities. The aim is to ensure they are prepared to respond immediately to any fire outbreaks. The public is urged to be extremely careful and refrain from any outdoor activities that could accidentally start a fire. This includes burning dry vegetation, operating machinery that produces sparks, using outdoor grills, or discarding lit cigarettes.

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has informed all competent state services, the Regions, and the Municipalities of the above areas. The goal is to be on increased civil protection readiness to immediately address any fire incidents.

Authorities remind the public that burning fields is strictly prohibited during the fire season. Anyone who spots a fire should immediately contact the Fire Department at 199. The warning highlights the ongoing vulnerability of many regions to fires, particularly during the summer months.
