High pressure over Poland brings an end to the chill as heat returns

The cold spell in Poland is easing as a high-pressure system draws warmer air into the country. Monday will remain relatively moderate, but Tuesday is expected to bring summer-like temperatures to much of the south.

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management said Poland lies under high pressure centered near Slovakia and southwestern Ukraine. Warmer polar maritime air is moving in from the west.

Monday will bring moderate to heavy cloud cover, with possible showers in the north. Highs will range from 16 to 18 C in the northeast and locally in the Carpathian foothills to 19 to 22 C elsewhere. Overnight lows will generally fall between 10 and 13 C, with around 8 C in parts of Podlasie and the Carpathian foothills.

Tuesday will be warmer. Forecast highs range from 23 to 24 C in the north and about 26 C in central areas to 28, 29 and locally 30 C in the south. Suwałki and the coast will remain cooler, at about 21 C. Showers may develop in western and central Poland, mainly in the afternoon.

Warsaw is expected to reach 20 C on Monday and 26 C on Tuesday. Winds will generally be light to moderate, though gusts could reach 60 km/h in the high Carpathians and Sudetes.
