High River, Alta. man faces domestic homicide charges in court appearance

A 36-year-old man from High River, Alberta, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his former partner. Jarret Stobbe appeared in court via CCTV from the Calgary Remand Centre on Friday, facing charges in the killing of Cayla Bleeker, also 36.

The RCMP have classified the incident as a domestic homicide, which occurred at a house north of downtown High River on Tuesday. Court documents reveal that Stobbe initially called police around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, making unfounded allegations about Bleeker. Approximately three and a half hours later, he made a second 9-1-1 call.

When officers arrived at the scene following the second call, they discovered Bleeker suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries. The victim's friends and loved ones were present in the courthouse for Stobbe's appearance.

As the legal proceedings begin, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Bleeker's young family. The campaign highlights her role as a "devoted single mother and sole provider" for her two daughters, aged 6 and 10. Stobbe's court appearance lasted less than five minutes, and he is scheduled to return on August 7 to secure legal representation.
