Taiwan braces for heat, potential thunderstorms as Typhoon Dolphin stays distant

Taiwan is bracing for a hot and humid day with temperatures expected to climb as high as 35 degrees Celsius (95 F) in many western areas, with the perceived temperature potentially reaching a sweltering 39 C (102 F) in northern and central inland regions. The Central Weather Administration forecasts scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon, especially in western and mountainous areas, where heavy rain is possible.

While the island faces muggy conditions, the 13th typhoon, Dolphin, is currently located far from Taiwan and is heading towards the waters south of Japan. Forecasters confirm it poses no threat to Taiwan this week.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to remain mostly cloudy to sunny with afternoon thunderstorms in the west and mountainous areas through early August. Eastern and southeastern parts of the island will see intermittent showers. Air quality is generally good, though some northern areas may experience brief periods of 'orange alert' levels.
