Higher education must intellectually empower students: Rajasthan Governor

Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde stressed the importance of intellectually empowering students within higher education institutions, stating it is essential for building a more capable nation. Addressing the 40th foundation day ceremony of Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University in Bikaner, Bagde highlighted that the youth's contribution is vital for national strengthening.

He acknowledged the university's significant achievements over four decades, noting that over 28,000 students have graduated in agriculture. Bagde suggested maintaining alumni records to track those who have brought national and international recognition to the institution. He also encouraged students to pursue competitive exams like UPSC and RPSC to engage in policymaking.

Emphasizing intellectual development, the governor referenced the contributions of educationist Sudha Murty and biochemist Kamala Sohonie, advocating for equal opportunities for girls. He also called for practical education and a move towards a "copy-free examination" system, aligning with provisions in the National Education Policy aimed at enhancing students' intellectual capabilities.

During the event, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal announced that the university received approval for a Centre of Excellence in agriculture under the India AI Mission, with an outlay of ₹20 crore. This initiative is expected to benefit farmers and agricultural researchers. Governor Bagde conferred the university's highest academic honor, Doctor of Science, on Meghwal and inaugurated a drone training center.
