Historic Douliu Police Station to Become Yunlin County History Museum by 2028

The historic "former Yunlin County Police Bureau" building in Douliu City is undergoing a significant transformation, with the Yunlin County Government investing NT$46.5 million in renovation. The project, which commenced with an opening ceremony on August 24, is slated for completion in early 2028.

The building, originally constructed in 1950 and formerly serving as the Douliu District Office and Police Station, retains architectural features from the post-WWII era. Its front section, built with brick and wood, is a representative example of police administrative buildings of that period and has witnessed the evolution of policing in the Douliu area. A rear section was added in 1972. The front section was designated a historical building by the county in 2019.

Upon completion, the revitalized building will serve as the "Yunlin County History Museum." It will feature exhibition areas for county history, meeting rooms, and an outdoor recreational space. The museum aims to connect with Douliu's old city culture, allowing residents to learn about Yunlin's past. Plans include permanent and special exhibitions starting next year, preserving local historical memory and becoming a vital cultural hub for understanding regional development. County Magistrate Chang Li-shan emphasized the principle of "restoring the old as old, with minimal intervention" to balance historical appearance, safety, and future use.
