HMI Masses Arrive in front of DPR Building for Demonstration

Hundreds of students affiliated with the Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (HMI) arrived at the Indonesian Parliament building in Jakarta on Friday afternoon, June 19, 2026, to protest what they deem "wasteful" programs under President Prabowo Subianto.

The protesters, identified by their green attire and crescent moon logo, marched along Jalan Gatot Subroto to the DPR's main gate, arriving at 3:25 PM Western Indonesian Time. From atop their command vehicle, student orators voiced demands that included opposing fuel price increases and protesting the perceived misuse of the state budget. The demonstration also highlighted concerns over the inadequate welfare of teachers and called for an evaluation of the free nutritious meal program.

Students from Trisakti University are also planning a similar demonstration at the same location. Arief Rizquna, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Trisakti University, stated that the planned protest is not spontaneous but the result of consolidation and preparation over the preceding days. "We have been preparing for approximately two days, starting from consolidation, issue inventory, to how this accumulated movement and anger can result in a movement," Arief said before the action.

The students presented three main demands: national economic and political recovery, the eradication of incompetent state officials, and the restoration of civil supremacy. This protest at the DPR is part of a series of movements initiated by BEM FH Trisakti to voice various issues they believe are burdening the public. The students emphasized their commitment to pursuing these demands until a response is received from the government and the DPR.
