Ho Chi Minh City accelerates key projects, urgently seeking land for billion-dollar expressway

Ho Chi Minh City is accelerating efforts to secure land for the critical Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh expressway. While 20 kilometers of the highway are already under construction, a significant portion, over 20%, of the necessary land remains unhanded over, hindering progress.

Authorities have set a firm deadline of September 30 for local districts to complete the land handover process. This directive comes after a recent inspection by Ho Chi Minh City Vice Chairman Hoang Nguyen Dinh, who met with representatives from various communes and wards to urge them to expedite compensation and land clearance.

The expressway section passing through Ho Chi Minh City requires the acquisition of over 344 hectares from 1,620 households and organizations, spanning 45.7 kilometers. To date, approximately 79.6% of the land, totaling over 260 hectares, has been handed over, with disbursed funds reaching 7,253 billion VND out of the project's total investment of 8,283 billion VND.

Despite general public agreement on land compensation, disbursement remains slow. Reports indicate that while most households have agreed to compensation, funding has not yet reached some residents. Vice Chairman Hoang Nguyen Dinh has instructed the Ho Chi Minh City Land Development Center to finalize all disbursements within 10 days, emphasizing clear responsibilities and timelines for all involved parties.
