Ho Chi Minh City District Pays Out Compensation for Metro Project

Xã Cần Giờ, a district in Ho Chi Minh City, has completed the disbursement of over 379 billion VND (approximately $15 million USD) in compensation and support payments to residents affected by the Ben Thanh - Can Gio metro project. This significant financial payout accompanies the handover of 1.1 million square meters of land, clearing the path for the construction of the vital urban rail line.

The organization of compensation and support payments and land handover is one of the important steps to ensure the progress of the Ben Thanh - Can Gio metro line project.

The metro project, funded by the Ho Chi Minh City budget and managed by the Management Board of Urban Railways, will connect the city center's 23/9 Park to a 39-hectare area adjacent to the Can Gio coastal urban tourism project. The compensation process involved 27 affected households, with resettlement sites designated at the Vam Sat 2 and Ba Xán residential areas.

Mai Trung Hưng, Chairman of the People's Committee of Xã Cần Giờ, acknowledged and appreciated the residents' cooperation and consensus in relinquishing their land for the project. He emphasized that this community support is a critical factor in maintaining the project's schedule and ensuring its timely completion. The successful land handover is seen as a testament to the residents' understanding of the importance of key transportation infrastructure for the city's development.

This is also the coordination and consensus of the people in the process of implementing key transportation infrastructure projects of Ho Chi Minh City.

This milestone is crucial for the Ben Thanh - Can Gio metro line, which is slated to begin operations in December 2025. The line will feature six operational trains and one spare, running from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. The timely completion of land acquisition and compensation is vital for the project's overall progress, which aims to enhance transportation connectivity and stimulate economic and social growth in Ho Chi Minh City.
